The strong carbon dissolution reaction of blast furnace coke occurs in the soft melting zone of blast furnace, which is the main reason for the degradation of coke in blast furnace, so blast furnace coke should have lower reactivity. According to the reactivity determination method of lump coke stipulated by China, Japan and other countries (see reactivity index of lump coke and strength after reaction), the reactivity index of coke for large blast furnace should be less than 35%. Casting coke is mainly used as a heat source in the iron melting furnace, and CO should not be generated in the furnace as much as possible, so casting coke requires lower reactivity.

The chemical composition of coke is mainly determined by coke industrial analysis and coke elemental analysis. According to the analysis of coke elements, the coke composition is: C82 ~ 87%,H1~1.5%,00.4~0.7%,N0.5~0.7%,S0.7~1.0%,P0.01 ~ 0.25%; According to the analysis of coke industry, its composition is: ash 10 ~ 18%, volatile 1 ~ 3%, fixed carbon 80 ~ 85%. Combustible base volatilization (see coke industry analysis) is an important symbol of coke maturity. Combustible base volatilization of mature coke is divided into 0.7 ~ 1.2%. The moisture content of coke varies with the quenching method, which is about 0.5% when dry quenching is used. When wet quenching is used, it is generally 3 ~ 4%. Coke ash contains 35 ~ 58% SiO2 and various metal oxides, generally Al2O3 accounts for 20~35%,Fe2O3 accounts for 8 ~ 15%,CaO accounts for 2 ~ 8%,MgO accounts for 1.5 ~

Coke includes the true density of coke, the apparent density of coke and the porosity of coke measured according to the Archimedes principle; the permeability of coke measured according to the principle of gas dynamics; the thermal properties of coke, such as the specific heat capacity of coke, Coke thermal conductivity, coke thermal stress, coke ignition temperature, coke thermal expansion coefficient and thermal shrinkage (see coke shrinkage), and the electrical properties of coke, coke resistivity, etc. Each user department also has corresponding requirements for focusing on carbon bulk. Therefore, the grouping of coke screens that indicate the particle size distribution of coke and the resulting series of property parameters (such as average bulk and coke bulk density, etc.) are also important physical properties. The physical properties of coke are closely related to its normal temperature mechanical strength, thermal strength and chemical properties. The main physical properties of coke are as follows: the true density is 1.80~1.95g/cm3; the apparent density is 0.88~1.08g/cm3; the porosity is 35 ~ 55%; the bulk density is 400~500kg/m3; the average specific heat is 0.808kJ/(kg-K)(100 ℃),1.465kJ/(kg-K)(1000 ℃); the thermal conductivity is 2.64kJ/(m h k) (normal temperature) and 6.91kJ/(m h k) (900 ℃); The ignition temperature (in air) is 450~650 ℃; The low calorific value of combustible base is 30~32kJ/g; The specific surface is 0.6~0.8 m2/g.
